After 15 minutes short walk along the bank of Modi Khola, we reach Birethanti (1015meters) a large village that has many shops and teahouses and famous for it’s traditional beer (Chaang). From there, the trail continues through the village. The trail follows the north bank of the Bhurungdi Khola. Afterwards, we cross the Modi Khola river through a suspension bridge and finally reach Tikhedhunga at 1570meters.
After breakfast trek starts to Ghorepani. We begin our journey with a steep climb towards Ulleri( 2070 m). The trail then continues to ascend more gently, through fine forests of oak and rhododendrons towards Banthanti at 2250 meters. Then we trek towards Nangethanti at 2460m. After an hour of walk, we reach Ghorepani at 2840meters.
Today, very early in the morning, we start an hour hiking to the viewpoint of Poon Hill at elevation of 3210 meters. After reaching to the top, your efforts will be rewarded with spectacular views of Machhapuchre, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and the Annapurnas. We spend about 1 hour before returning to Ghorepani where we take a hot breakfast. We then trek to Tadapani (2610meters). We descend through Rhododendron and Pine forest, pass by spectacular waterfalls along the way and reach Tadapani where we can see a superb view of Annapurna South and the peak of Machhapuchhare.
The trek starts with steep downhill through Rhododendron forests to the Kyumnu Khola, a tributary of the Modi Khola. From here a steep ascent brings us to Chhomrong at elevation of 2,170m, another Gurung village and the last permanent settlement in the valley. Chhomrong is a beautiful village located on the lap of giant Annapurna massive. From Chhomrong, we have good views again of Annapurna South and from this point onwards the twin-peaked mountain Machhapuchhare ('fishtail') which gives the mountain its name.
After having a breakfast, we start walking several thousands steps down to the Chhomrong Khola and then another steep climb to Sinuwa at 2350 meters. Then the track passes through deep bamboo and rhododendron forests. After the small settlement of Bamboo, we follow up along the Modi Khola forest to the Dovan.
This section is through thick rhododendron, oak and bamboo forest and over 100 different species of orchid are found in this region. Our trek begins with the climb through bamboo, then rhododendron forests to Himalayan Hotel (2900m). We pass a huge rock that forms Hinku Cave, a good place to shelter and rest weary limbs. Once we reach Deurali, the forest disappears and the valley opens up, with the mountains now appearing very close by. Deurali is at the foot of the Modi Himal and Machhapuchhare, one of the most famous mountains in the Himalayas.
Today we start our trek to Annapurna Base Camp. After walking for 2-3 hours from Deurali, we will find ourselves in middle of river bed surrounded by giant snow-covered mountains. After a short trek, we will reach Machhapuchhare Base Camp, which isn’t really a base camp since climbing the mountain is not permitted. Two hours trek from Machhapuchhare Base Camp take you to the Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) at elevation of 4130 meters. This place gives you an spectacular view of Himalayas including Annapurna 1 (8091m), Annapurna 3 (7555m), Singu Chuli (6501m), Tharpu Chuli (5500m), and Machhapuchhare (6997m).
We wake up early and savor the magnificent sunrise over the Himalayas. The mornings are usually clear, but clouds often obscure the peaks by noon and then clear again in the late afternoon. After some great photo opportunities of this fantastic area, we retrace our steps to Bamboo with memories of the magical morning upper most in our hearts and minds.
After breakfast, we follow the same trail until Chommrong. From Chommrong the trail descends very steeply to the Jhinu, where we can enjoy the natural hot spring bath and soothe our trekking muscles.
From Jhinu, we drop down to the Modi Khola River. The walk is pleasant most of the way following the Modi River until Birethanthi. From Birethanti, a half-an-hour's trek takes us to Naya Pul. Upon reaching Nayapul, we take a bus to Sarankot. Sarankot is famous for its Himalayan views. One can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of Annapurna (8091m), Machhapuchare (Fish-Tail), Ganesh Himal (7446m), Manasalu (8165m), Dhaulagiri (8167m) and 25 other mountains over 6000 meters high.
