Reviews

Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour is an extraordinary 10-day journey from Nepal’s vibrant capital to Tibet’s most revered peak, Mount Kailash. This overland pilgrimage links Kathmandu’s UNESCO heritage and lively bazaars with high Himalayan passes, stark plateaus, and the crystalline sanctity of Lake Manasarovar, culminating at Darchen for the famed Kailash Parikrama. Guided by experienced Tibetan leaders and supported from Kathmandu, the route blends cultural immersion, spiritual depth, and cinematic scenery across the Himalaya.

More than a scenic drive, the Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour is a moving encounter with living faiths—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Bon—each venerating Kailash as a cosmic axis. From Kathmandu’s stupas to Gyirong’s border town, onward to Saga and Manasarovar’s sweeping shores, you’ll acclimatize thoughtfully before setting out on the 3-day Parikrama. For many, the quiet steps beneath Kailash’s north face at Dirapuk and the crossing of 5,636 m Dolma La to Zuthulpuk are transformative, offering a rare combination of resilience, humility, and awe.

Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour: The Epic Overland Journey

The overland route is a core part of the pilgrimage. Your Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour begins in Kathmandu—time to explore ancient temples, gather permits, and prepare for altitude—then heads north toward the Nepal–Tibet border. Crossing into Tibet, lush foothills yield to the vast high-altitude plateau: immense open spaces, sapphire skies, and serried mountain horizons.

This scenic drive threads remote villages and panoramic Himalayan viewpoints. A cherished stop is Lake Manasarovar, whose turquoise waters are believed to cleanse a lifetime of sins—an unforgettable prelude to the days ahead in Darchen and the Parikrama.

Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour: Kailash Parikrama (Kora)

The spiritual core of the Kathmandu Mount Kailash Overland Tour is the Kora (Parikrama), a 52 km circumambulation performed over three days. It is physically demanding—especially the ascent over Dolma La Pass (5,636 m)—yet the spiritual uplift is immeasurable. Walking alongside pilgrims from across the world, some prostrating the entire circuit, is humbling and deeply moving. The combination of raw landscape and collective devotion creates a palpable, unforgettable energy.
