Ruby Valley Trekking – 10 Days offers a rare blend of adventure, culture, and natural beauty in Nepal’s Ganesh Himal region. This off-the-beaten-path trek is perfect for those who want authentic Himalayan experiences far away from crowded trails like Everest or Annapurna. This journey offers an ideal mix of cultural engagement and unspoiled natural splendor, enabling you to enjoy authentic hospitality in traditional Tamang and Gurung villages seldom visited by outsiders. Offering breathtaking mountain vistas free from the congestion of busy trails, this trek is perfect for adventurers in search of a genuine off-the-beaten-path journey.
The extensive route in the Ruby Valley leads you through various ecosystems that highlight the stunning beauty of Nepal. The diverse terrains include vibrant terraced farms and thick woodlands, as well as vast high-altitude meadows, interspersed with natural hot springs and flowing waterfalls. Strategic outlooks along the path provide awe-inspiring views of the majestic Ganesh Himal range and the far-off summits of Manaslu and Langtang, guaranteeing that each bend reveals a remarkable new scene.
The adventure starts with a picturesque drive from Kathmandu to the trailhead in Syabrubesi, laying the groundwork for an engaging experience. On Day 2, you immerse yourself in traditional life while hiking from Syabrubesi to Gatlang, a village celebrated for its peaceful ambiance and a holy lake. On Day 3, the journey progresses from Gatlang to Somdang, as the path climbs through genuine Tamang villages, providing a close look at traditional customs and ways of life. On Day 4, you traverse the demanding Pangsang Kharka pass (at 3,845 m), culminating at the elevated ridge of Tipling, which offers stunning mountain views.
The best seasons for Ruby Valley Trekking – 10 Days are spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November).
👉 Trekking is possible in winter (December–February) as well, but temperatures drop significantly in higher areas. Summer/monsoon (June–August) is less ideal due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and leeches — though the landscapes are lush and green.
During Ruby Valley Trekking – 10 Days, you’ll experience the warmth of Nepali home-stays and community-managed lodges. Unlike commercial trekking routes, Ruby Valley is less developed, so accommodations are simple but authentic.
Lodging: Basic wooden houses, cozy rooms, and village home-stays where you sleep under warm blankets provided by your hosts. This is one of the few treks in Nepal where you truly live like the locals.
Meals: Expect fresh, locally grown ingredients. Common meals include dal bhat (rice, lentils, and curry), seasonal vegetables, fried noodles, Tibetan bread, and hot soups. In many villages, you’ll be offered homemade raksi (local wine) as part of cultural hospitality.
This mix of simple but hearty food and genuine community lodging makes the Ruby Valley trek unique compared to the tea-house culture of Everest or Annapurna.
To join the Ruby Valley Trekking – 10 Days, trekkers must carry the proper permits:
TIMS Card (Trekkers’ Information Management System): Mandatory for all foreign trekkers to ensure safety and monitoring.
Restricted Area Permit (RAP): Since Ruby Valley lies near the Ganesh Himal conservation region, you’ll need this special permit, arranged only through a registered trekking agency in Nepal (like Him-Trail Travel & Treks).

Today, you will go on the full day guided sightseeing tour. You will head towards the Boudhanath Stupa, which is the largest Stupa of South Asia. You will then visit one of the holiest temples of Hindus, Pashupatinath Temple. From here, you will move towards the Swayambhunath Stupa, which is also popularly known as Monkey Temple. All of these monuments are the part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Overnight stay at a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu.
Your Ruby Valley adventure begins with a scenic 7–8 hour drive to Syabrubesi, passing through Trisuli Bazaar, Ramche Gaon, and Dhunche. As we enter Langtang National Park, we stop to register our trekking permits. Though the road gets narrow and rocky at times, the lush hills, rivers, and distant peaks make the ride memorable. Syabrubesi, a small town near the Chinese border, is well-equipped for trekkers and serves as the perfect place to rest. We spend the night here, relaxing and preparing for the journey ahead.
Today, we head toward the charming Tamang village of Gatlang, trekking along a narrow, winding trail to Bahun Dada Pass before descending. We pause at Chawatar for lunch, where the freshly picked local vegetables make the meal especially flavorful. As we walk through Gatlang, the deep-rooted Tamang culture and traditional houses leave a lasting impression. We spend the night with a local family, enjoying their warm hospitality and home-cooked meals.
We start our trek from Gatlang to Parvati Kunda, a serene alpine lake considered sacred by locals and named after the Hindu goddess Parvati. As we move forward, the number of lodges and tourists thins out, giving way to peaceful trails lined with pine and rhododendron forests leading to Yuri Kharka. After a hearty meal there, we continue towards Somdang via Khurphu Bhanjyang, passing a long-abandoned mine that once produced zinc, copper, and even rubies. We spend the night in the quiet and remote Somdang Valley, where the silence is so deep, it feels almost unreal.
We start the day in Somdang with a warm breakfast before heading toward the challenging yet rewarding Pangsang La Pass. The trail leads us southwest to Pangsang Kharka, a vast meadow offering breathtaking views of Mount Manaslu and the Ganesh Himal Range. This part of the trek is less traveled, with limited homestays, adding to its untouched charm. After soaking in the views, we descend through dense fir and rhododendron forests, eventually reaching Tipling via the peaceful village of Laptung.
Today’s trek is shorter and more relaxed as we make our way to the sister villages of Shertung and Chalish Gaon. We descend through a peaceful forest, cross a small stream, and arrive at Chalish Gaon nestled in a picturesque valley. Just 100 meters above sits Shertung, offering equally stunning views and quiet charm. These villages, home to Gurungs, Tamangs, and Dalits, are perfect for either light exploration or simply soaking in the serene beauty of the surrounding hills and fields.
On your final day before heading back to Kathmandu, we start with a relaxed breakfast and hike to Borang village, then descend to Lishne Khola. From there, a local jeep takes us along winding roads through Ankhu Khola and Kimdang Phedi, offering glimpses of quiet villages that leave a lasting impression. The ride brings a mix of reflection and nostalgia as you pass through the peaceful countryside. We spend the night at Dhading Besi, wrapping up the trek with one last moment of calm before the return journey.
We take another bus from Dhading Besi to Kathmandu back to your hotel. If you want, we can arrange a Kathmandu city tour taking you to several world heritage sites. As beautiful as the surrounding mountains, the culture in and around Kathmandu City is a must-see before you call it an end to your vacation.
We’ll drop you at Tribhuvan International Airport for your scheduled departure and bid you farewell.
